History

According to information obtained from various sources,

The name Tampak Siring comes from the word Tampak which means the soles of the feet and Siring means tilted. It is stated in the  Usana Bali, a lontar that tells the history of Tampak Siring Bali.

In Balinese history, it is said that in ancient times, Mayadenawa was a strong king, but had an evil nature and considered himself a god. Because of his evil nature, then Lord Indra sent his troops, to destroy Mayadenawa.

Mayadenawa lost the war against Dewa Indra and Mayadenawa fled to the forest. To eliminate the trace, Mayadenawa walked by tilting his feet in the middle of the forest. Although Mayadenawa tried to eliminate the trace, his attempt to escape failed. Before being captured by Dewa Indra's forces, Mayadenawa created a poisonous spring.

With poisonous springs, Mayadenawa managed to kill several forces of Lord Indra who chased Mayadenawa.

To deal with the poisonous springs of Mayadenawa, Lord Indra created the antidote. This spring is called Tirta Empul (holy water), therefore the temple that has this spring is called the Tirta Empul Temple.

The forest used for Mayadenawa fled, with its feet tilted, this is now a tourist area of Tampak Siring.

According to the story, that was obtained after drinking holy water, the Bhatara / Lord Indra forces could recover as usual.

After centuries, this place was converted into a water park by the king of Indrajaya Sigha Warmadewa in 882 çaka and was given the name "Tirta Empul" which means hot steam.
