Tanah Lot

Tanah Lot is a Balinese temple in middle of the sea.

A stunning charm with a peaceful atmosphere that will be felt when you visit here.

And one of Asia's most beautiful unique temples

Located : Tabanan Bali

Tanah Lot comes from the Balinese word tanah and lot, which means land (above) the sea. Tanah Lot itself is a small rocky island in the middle of the sea shaped like a wave.

On top of the chunk is a very famous temple, the Tanah Lot Temple. This tourist location is one of the most famous among tourists, both local and foreign.

From the Tanah Lot gate, we just have to walk directly to the main attraction of this place, the Tanah Lot Temple. Located about 200 meters from the mainland, Tanah Lot Temple can only be visited during low tide, which is around 6 am or before sunset.

This iconic temple is said to have been built by Dang Hyang Nirartha who traveled to the southern part of Bali around the 16th century. This temple is one of the seven sea temples in Bali.

Snake guard at Tanah Lot Temple

At the bottom of this rocky island is a snake that Balinese believe is the shawl of Dang Hyang Nirartha and is responsible for guarding the temple from evil spirits.

Some people, not just Hindus, believe that if we hold this snake, we will get good luck. Therefore, during the hours when the tide is low, the queue to the snake place seems to be overwhelming.

Because the main attraction of this location is the view at sunset, the best time to visit this place is just before sunset, which is around five in the afternoon. Sunset in Bali itself is around 6pm local time.

At this time of the day, people usually gather in the area along the edge of the tourist site to see the sunset clearly. The favorite spots are to the east of Tanah Lot Temple and to the east of Batu Bolong Temple, because the silhouettes of the two temples are very iconic.

If you visit Bali at other times, such as during the day, the conditions will of course be very hot and the sea is also at high tide, so the rising sea water will prevent visitors from reaching Tanah Lot Temple which is in the middle of the sea.
