Besakih Temple


Besakih Temple is center temple of Bali. When you visit this temple you will feel a tremendous positive aura.

Balinese people believe that this temple is the place of all Lords that exist to be able to provide protection to this world and all God's creations.

According to the information obtained in an inscription, it is said that Besakih Temple was built in 1284 AD by Rsi Markandeya from India and his followers.

But there are also some historians who believe that the forerunner to the Besakih Temple was built in 163 AD, long before Borobudur and Prambanan Temples were established by the Hindu Mataram Kingdom.

However, since the 15th century, the Besakih Temple was designated as a royal temple during the reign of the Gelgel Dynasty.

With a beautiful panorama, against the Mount Agung as background. The panorama is awesome when in the morning sun shines on the temple complex and when the sun sets. This temple can be decorated with Balinese style ornaments, temple stairs, sacred stone idols, and stone carvings.

When you explore this temple, you must rent and use a sarong at the temple's main entrance to respect Balinese customs, because of the Besakih Temple, which is a holy place of worship.

From the entrance, if you climbing up the stairs  will take you to the Penataran Agung Temple.

Local people believe that the Penataran Agung Temple is the center of dedication to several Lords.

After you enter the path of the great upgrading, you will see a place of worship which is a stupa with a large dragon below,

And from the height of this temple, you will also see the vast stretch of Bali island. The moments when you visit Besakih Temple should not be forgotten.
